What is digital printing?

Digital printing refers to the various methods of printing from a digital-based image directly onto fabric. Let’s
begin with conventional screen printing on Fabric. Conventional screen printing requires the engraving of one
screen per color in a design. So, a design with 18 colors would require 18 screens. Additionally, 18 separate
colors also need to be mixed and matched. With digital printing, there are no screens or colors to mix. Any
image you can see on a computer can be reproduced on fabric in the same way as your desktop printer prints
images on paper. Unlike conventional printing, there are no limitations to the number of colors on a digitally
printed fabric.
What qualities does Shannon Fabrics digitally print on?

We print on Cuddle® and other microfiber plush fabrics.
We also digitally print on polyester satin.
Where does Shannon Fabrics digitally print their fabrics?

Our digital printing will be done Overseas.
Will Shannon Fabrics have a library of prints for me to choose from?
Answer
Yes, we will have an extensive library of prints to choose from for custom orders. Additionally, we will have an
in-stock line of digitally printed fabrics for immediate delivery.
Does Shannon have access to any other libraries?
Answer
Yes! Shannon Fabrics currently has licensing agreements in place with Hoffman of
California and Premier Prints. What this means is that we have access to most of the
designs from all of these companies for our customers to print on plush fabric. We may need approval from
some of the designers that license their designs/prints with these companies.
Will Shannon Fabrics grant exclusivity on designs picked from their library?

Yes, we offer 6 months exclusivity for all orders of 250 yards or more per design/color.
Can designs from the Shannon Fabrics library be modified?
Answer
Yes. All designs in the Shannon Fabrics library can be modified and/or recolored.
Depending on the extent of the work requested, charges may be incurred.
Does Shannon Fabrics offer design work, repeats or colorings?

Yes! We charge $60/hour for graphic design. Please inquire for more information.
Will Shannon Fabrics print a customer's own design?
Answer
Yes, the minimum to print a customer’s own design is 150 yards.
Will Shannon Fabrics print less than 100 yards for custom orders?
Answer
No, our minimum order quantity for any special ordering digital printing is 100 yards.
What is the delivery/turn-around time for custom digitally printed fabric?
Answer
The delivery for custom orders printed Overseas is an estimated 4-6 weeks after the s/o has been approved by the customer. The turnaround time for strike-offs is approx. two weeks after the design and layout has been approved by the customer.
What do you need to print my design? Are there any design limitations?
Answer
The image file can be any Illustrator, Photoshop, PDF, JPEG, TIFF, GIF file, with optimally 300 DPI. When
designing continuous patterns for printing, they should be put into a repeat, however, unlike conventional
printing, your repeat is not limited by the size of the print screen. You can also print panels and other
engineered layouts.
If a certain panel/engineered print is narrower than the width of the goods please ask the customer if they
would like us to enlarge the original file or extend the artwork. Once we have the final approval we will move
forward with the strike off process.
Copyright issues

Shannon Fabrics will only print designs that it owns the copyright of, or has a license to print. When printing
our customers’ designs, we require proof of authenticity and a signed Indemnity Agreement which states that
the customer has rights to the design and indemnifies Shannon Fabrics, Inc. against any claims
What about color matching?
Answer
Digital printing is more of an art than a science. The color effect seen on a computer screen is not exactly what
will print out on the fabric. Though a vast number of colors can be achieved there are some colors that go
beyond the range of digital color, making exact color matching problematic. To help with managing color, you
may wish to purchase a color matrix printed on the fabric for $20.00.
Please note that there may be up to a 5% color differential from strike off approval.
Will Shannon Fabrics print on my base cloth?
Answer
Since we are printing in Korea, we can source a similar base quality overseas but it must be 100% Polyester.
We will submit a counter quality sample for approval prior to printing.
Are digitally printed plush fabrics still machine washable?
Answer
Yes. The care instructions for digital and conventional printed Cuddle® is the same.
