MSRP vs. MAP
MSRP stands for Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price. It refers to the price that the manufacturer recommends a retailer should charge for a particular product. Retailers are not obligated to sell the product at the MSRP and may offer discounts or set their own prices based on factors such as market demand, competition, and their own pricing strategies.
MAP stands for Minimum Advertised Price. It is the lowest price that a retailer is allowed to advertise or publicly promote a product for sale. MAP pricing is typically set by the manufacturer or supplier of the product to maintain a certain level of pricing consistency among retailers and protect the brand image and value of the product. While retailers can still sell the product below the MAP price, they are restricted from advertising or promoting the lower price. This helps prevent price wars and protects the margins of all retailers. MAP policies are commonly used in industries where brand reputation and pricing control are crucial. By implementing MAP pricing, manufacturers can ensure that their products are not devalued through excessive discounting and maintain a level playing field among retailers.
